8th Grade Team Letter
Dear 8th Grade Parent/Guardian:
The Eighth Grade Team would like to welcome you and your child back for another exciting and successful year at Cameron Veterans Middle School. Teacher email address can be found on individual syllabus. If you need to contact the school, the phone number is 816-882-1041.
Members of the 8th Grade Team are:
Valerie Hutton—ELA Jean Eckert—Science
Rachel Barlow—Math Toni Cooper--ELA
Court Ott—Social Studies Connie Robinson—Special Services
**TEAMING—Teaming is a method of organizing teachers and students in a cooperative effort to create a more personal and balanced learning environment. Our team consists of all the teachers in the eighth grade wing. We share the same students and have a common team planning period. The team utilizes the combined skills, talents, interests, and training of these members to aid in managing the education program for the Eight Grade students. Because we share the same students, our team has increased knowledge of the students’ strengths and areas that might need improvement.
**PLANNING TIME—Our common planning time is 3rd period (9:45-10:29 daily) and our team plan is 8th period (2:15-3:00 daily). Please feel free to call, or email, if you have any concerns or to set up a conference with the team.
**ABSENT--When a student is absent for any reason, it is their responsibility to collect all homework assignments missed. If a student is absent they have the number of days they were absent to make up their assignments. For one day absences, parents can call the office by 10 am to request homework for their child.
**DISCIPLINE—The discipline policy is explained in the Student Handbook and each teacher has reviewed their classroom procedures, policies and consequences with their classes. Participation in field trips will be determined by office referral, detention and/or suspension. The dress code will be enforced. Please remember that sleepwear pants and slippers are unacceptable. Please read over the student handbook so that you are familiar with all the policies.
**FIELD TRIPS—Each grade level in the building will participate in at least one grade-level field trip each year. Since it is very important to us here at CVMS to protect the integrity of the school district, a student’s behavior history will be a determining factor in the students eligibility to attend the field trip. Any student that has served an OSS consequence during the semester of the scheduled trip, WILL NOT be allowed to attend the trip. The decision to allow a student who has served any ISS consequences will be at the administrations discretion. Appropriate dress for field trips will be communicated to the students and parents from the teacher(s) supervising the trip. Any student that does not comply with the appropriate dress expectations will not be allowed to attend.
**ZAPs--See student handbook for the CVMS Homework Policy.
** DRAGON PRIDE—Requirements for Dragon Pride are as follows (per Semester):
---No office referrals
---95 % attendance (all absences count)
---All As and Bs
---No ZAPs
**Late papers are defined differently by each 8th grade teacher (core and exploratory). Students are responsible for knowing each teachers definition of a late paper.
